    Introducing Marshmallow!

Android™ Marshmallow has an intuitive look and feel thanks to its vivid colors and imagery. On top of that, Marshmallow is boosted with a set of great new features to make your Xperia™ device even more powerful than before.

Check out this video to see some Marshmallow highlights:

The availability of software updates depends on your device, country, and/or operator. Please note that regardless of Android™ version, some features and functionality may also differ depending on your device.

To see your current software version, updates, and upcoming software releases, visit the software page on the Sony Mobile support site.

    You're in control

    You're in control

Apps sometimes need permission to access sensitive or critical functionalities such as your camera or microphone. When they do, a pop-up dialogue will ask you to allow or deny them access. With Marshmallow, it’ll be so much easier to control an app’s individual permissions, either along the way or by altering the grants at a later stage. If you change your mind and want to revoke or restore any permission, you can easily do so through the Settings menu. By having more control over the apps on your device, you’ll have more control over your privacy.

The new Now on Tap feature from Google™ picks up information directly from your screen and delivers instant up-to-date search results back. Simply hold down the Home button to let Now on Tap use whatever content is on your screen to search for additional information. The search results are presented as on-screen cards that make it easy for you to access the information and act on it. For example, if a friend texts you to invite you for lunch in a nearby town, Now on Tap can suggest a number of different restaurants with links to menus and online reservations, as well as give you directions on how to get there.

Note! Now on Tap may not be supported in all languages. Switch to English or any other supported language to try this feature.

    Do not disturb

    Do not disturb

Marshmallow includes an enhanced version of the Do not disturb mode. It comes in handy, for example, when you need to concentrate on something for an hour or two, or maybe just want to spend the evening off the phone. Simply swipe downward twice from the top edge of the screen to enter the Quick settings panel and then tap Do not disturb. The default setting is one hour, allowing only priority alerts to come through, but you can modify the settings in several ways. One way is to create your own definition of priority alerts. You can also use automatic rules to keep the Do not disturb mode active at certain times or when something’s happening in your calendar.

    Boosted battery life

Doze is a great new battery management feature that recognizes when your device is not in use and automatically puts it into a sleep-like state, for example, on your bedside table at night. Best of all, Doze is automatically enabled on your device so you don’t have to do anything to set it up. App Standby is another new feature that identifies and disables apps that haven’t been used in a while. Depending on your device, other power saving modes might also be available.

    Select all, copy, or share

Marshmallow comes with a new and improved text selection tool. Simply touch and hold a word on your screen, and you’ll get a localized floating toolbar that offers three simple options: select all, copy, or share. Just as before, you can easily use the handles on both sides of the highlighted word to include any text snippet you want, before choosing what to do from the floating toolbar.

    Move your goodies

With Marshmallow you can transfer photos, videos and other files between your Xperia™ device and your computer, much the same as before. You only need one adjustment to get going. This is how you do it: Connect your Xperia™ to your computer using a USB cable. Swipe down from the top edge of the Xperia™ screen, tap USB for Charging and select Transfer files (MTP). Done! Now you can browse the content of your Xperia™ device from the computer and start transferring files. Remember that you need to do this every time you want to transfer files, and you’ll be fine!

    And... Action:

Installing Marshmallow will also bring you Sony’s new, sleek, intuitive camera interface, previously available only on Xperia™ Z5 models. You can easily adjust shots in real-time and quickly swipe between different capturing modes. For example, you can switch from taking photos in Manual mode to capturing videos in two quick swipes. The camera settings are easy to access and you can customize your shots using on-screen sliders. Please note that regardless of Android version, some features and functionality may also differ depending on your device.
