What is the Data saver feature in Android 7.0 or higher?

You can turn on the Data saver feature to use less mobile data, for example, if you have a subscription with a limited data plan. When Data saver is on, most apps and services only get background data via Wi-Fi®.

    Android 8.0 or 9.0

    To turn on Data saver

    1. Find and tap Settings > Network & Internet > Data usage > Data saver.
    2. Tap the slider beside Off. When Data saver is on,  appears in the status bar.

    Android 7.0, 7.1 or 7.1.1

    1. From your Home screen, tap the Application screen icon.
    2. Find and tap Settings > Data usage > Data saver.
    3. Tap the slider beside Off. When Data saver is on,  appears in the status bar, and a notification appears at the top of the Settings menu.

Receiving background data when there is no Wi-Fi®

When Data saver is on and Wi-Fi® isn't available, some apps and services may not be able to send and receive data in the background. To avoid this, you can select apps and services that will continue receiving background data via mobile data although Data saver is on.
